"Trust Your Eyes To Experience" Corneal and Anterior Segment Surgery Dr. Thimmappa is a fellowship trained cornea specialist. Her clinical interests include cornea transplants, cataract surgery, refractive surgery, reconstruction of the anterior chamber, complications of cataract surgery, sutured IOLS, infectious diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva, uveitis, cornea dystrophies and degenerations, ocular surface disorders, and immune disorders of the cornea and conjunctiva. Dr. Thimmappa is a native of Bridgeport, West Virginia. She received her BS in Biology from Emory University where she graduated with highest honors and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She received her MD degree from the Medical College of Virginia where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Honor Society. Dr. Thimmappa served her ophthalmology residency and fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Founded in 1820, The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary is the oldest specialty hospital in the Western Hemisphere. New York Eye and Ear Infirmary is continually ranked in US News and World Report’s “America’s Best Hospitals.” Dr. Thimmappa is an Associate Adjunct Professor at New York Eye and Ear where she is actively involved in resident education and periodically runs the cornea clinic. Dr. Thimmappa is Board Eligible for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology Surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, New York Medical Society, and the North Carolina Medical Society. She currently holds active medical licenses in both New York and North Carolina. Dr. Thimmappa has published and presented several articles in the ophthalmology literature.
